Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

An exciting opportunity to join a market leading design company that has an increasing global reach focusing on the RV market. Working in the New Product Development Team, the focus of the role is to design mechanical components and sub-systems for new products, as well as modifying and enhancing existing products. This is a real opportunity to enter a dynamic and creative environment, and drive new development ideas and projects. The products can embody mechanical housing and precision mechanisms, electronics and software in elegant packages, manufactured in low to medium volume and sold worldwide. The mechanical technology includes cases, motors, gearboxes and mechanisms. Manufacturing processes involve castings, mouldings, pressings and machining.

We are looking for:
• A mechanical design engineer with experience in taking mixed technology product design from concept to manufacture in a medium volume Manufacturing environment
• Experience in a range of mechanical technologies (casings, precision mechanisms) in a mixed technology systems and products (including electronics and software)
• Experience in working as part of a cross functional team including electronics, manufacturing and supply chain.

Key tasks:
• Take ownership for design of the mechanical element of New Product Development & Product Improvement as part of a cross functional product development team
• Provide detailed concepts, planning and design risk assessments for the design including contributing to the generation of ideas and new Technology & IP
• Undertake technology assessments and development to de-risk technology before it is applied to design project
• Produce product specifications for the mechanical element of the product
• Produce calculations and simulations of to support key design elements
• Run or support product or prototype testing
• Run and partake in cross functional design reviews
• Produce and maintain project development records (planning, cost)
• Produce and control Designs using appropriate tools (CAD, Simulation packages)
• Knowledge of SolidWorks
• Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management tools systems
• 2D and 3D CAD proficiency, preferably SolidWorks.

Ideally degree qualified mechanical engineer, but not essential.
